A quality of the light, or, September breaks your heart

I took these pictures yesterday on Capitol Hill as I walked from Cal Anderson Park & the light rail construction to Seattle Central, down Harvard, up Olive, then down 10th to Harrison.

September can be a heartbreakingly beautiful time of year in Seattle. When it’s clear out, the light is crisp and golden and the sky is a piercing blue shading down to turquoise. It’s like we’ve been waiting all year for the weather to ripen into this, and here it is, perfect. Enjoy it while you can.
