My present to you for Earth Day – a heads up on two free workshops happening this Earth Day weekend at the City People’s Garden Store in Madison Park (2939 E Madison St.). RSVP to City People’s at (206) 324-0737 if you want to attend. I get a lot of my garden supplies, seeds and starts from these fine folks, so these workshops might be just the excuse you need for your big spring garden shopping trip.
Succession Gardening: Flowers All Year Round

A Bird’s Eye View: Attracting Songbirds to your Garden
Sunday, April 21st, 1 – 2 pm
This family-friendly workshop focuses on how to attract songbirds and hummingbirds to your garden. By providing favorite plants and habitat, Chickadees, Wrens, Goldfinches, Song Sparrows, and other delightful birds will make beautiful music in your garden, and Hummingbirds will hover like flying jewels. These birds will provide you with natural pest control too! Instructor Emily Bishton is a landscape designer and educator who specializes in creating gardens that are wildlife-friendly and child-friendly. She is also director and lead teacher of the Magnuson Community Center Nature Programs for children and families.
